Beauty trends come and go, but clean, healthy, beautiful skin is always in. That’s why it’s essential to keep up with the times, reevaluate our skincare routine, set new goals, and kick some of those bad habits. New Year means new you.
Do your skin a favor, and start the new year off the right way with these effective skincare resolutions!
1. Out with the Old, In with the New
If you’re currently reading this, you’re probably thinking about your massive skincare pile or the three different items you rarely use because you’re not sure they’re doing much for your skin. Unfortunately, skincare products do have an expiration date. Check the labels on all of your products for an icon of a small jar with a number inside. The number represents the number of months your products are good after they’ve been opened. Get rid of those expired products, and hit the beauty stores for a new regimen—your skin will thank you.
2. Moisturize Twice A Day
Moisturized skin is hydrated, radiant, and supple skin. When you moisturize in the morning, you rehydrate and plump the skin, which helps your foundation look flawless. If you like a bare-faced look, moisturizer will keep your skin glowing and healthy, making you look more awake.
Our skin repairs itself at night, so when you apply your moisturizer, your skin will take all of the essential vitamins to help produce cellular turn over at a faster rate. This helps to repair skin damage, fight off bacteria, purge toxins, and slow aging.
3. Treat Yourself to A Mask
Find a mask that specifically targets your skin concerns and commit to using it once a week. Masking regularity can create profound benefits in your skin. Apply a mask after cleansing one to three times a week to see the difference. While your mask works its magic, maybe take a bath with some essential oils to help reduce stress.
4. Exfoliation Is Our Friend
What good is masking and moisturizing if your products can’t effectively absorb? Buff away dead skin cells and help along cell turnover to reveal glowing, fresh skin. An added benefit is this will help your skincare absorb and your makeup to blend effortlessly.
5. Don’t Skip the SPF
You might take a day off, but the sun never does; wear sunscreen every day! This is probably the number one most beneficial thing that you can do for your skin this year. No matter where you live or what climate you come from, apply that sunscreen to all exposed skin.
6. No Sleepovers with Your Makeup
As previously mentioned, your skin repairs itself overnight, and makeup left on the skin doesn’t help that process. Avoid clogged pores and premature aging by developing a nightly skincare routine that thoroughly removes your makeup. If your schedule sometimes doesn’t allow it, or you know it will be a late night, leave a case of makeup wipes by your bedside just in case.
7. Wash Your Makeup Brushes
It’s so important to rid your brushes of bacteria that can transfer onto your face and wreak havoc on your skin. Add a drop of baby shampoo or your favorite brush cleaner to your palm, swirl the brush into the soap and rinse the brush head underwater once more. Repeat until the water runs clear and your brushes look brand new.
8. Wear Skin Healthy Makeup
“Clean” beauty is all the rage these days, and for a good reason. When you work so hard to keep your skin balanced, don’t undo it with pore-clogging makeup. Find products free of harmful ingredients like phthalates, parabens, sulfates, fragrances, talc, and alcohol.
9. Address Your Skin Concerns
It’s time to kiss those pesky skin issues goodbye, from hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, acne, texture, and dryness with skincare that targets your specific issues. There’s a world of skincare options out there to choose from, and with a little research, you can find something that could potentially change your skincare game. Remember to look at reviews and give it two weeks to a month to see results.
