Laser hair removal
is a popular cosmetic procedure for people who are tired of wasting their time shaving and painfully waxing every few weeks. The process involves using a concentrated point of light into the hair follicle that essentially takes away the hair pigment. This process destroys hair follicles, thinning out hair on the legs, face, bikini line area, underneath the arms, and even on the back. Laser hair removal also allows for spot removal of hair without affecting the areas around it.

The dynamic team at M Spa Face & Body, Dr. Deborah Miller, MD, and Shauna McLaughlin, PA-C, can help you can feel the silky-smooth, hair-free skin permanently. This completely gentle and pain-free procedure can stop the hair follicles from producing that pesky, unwanted hair, creating the touchable-soft skin just in time for the summer. Laser hair removal is suitable for any part of your body, so you can finally throw away those razors and enjoy the radiant feeling of no hair.

Here’s what you can expect from your laser hair removal procedure.

What to Expect from Laser Hair Removal Procedure?

Before your appointment, it is recommended that you come with about 2-3 days of hair growth in the area you are looking to have treated, leaving small 2-3 mm stubs of hair. This allows the laser to reach the root of the hair attached to the follicle to destroy it. On the day of the procedure, the preferred area will be cleaned, dried, and marked. The applicator on the device will begin to deliver pulses of energy throughout the targeted area, effectively damaging multiple follicles with each pulse.

How Many Sessions Can I Expect?

Our hair grows in three different stages: the active growing stage, the dormant stage, and the shedding stage. Because laser hair removal only works on hairs when they’re at a specific point in their growth cycle, multiple sessions will be required to clear hair from an entire area.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

At M Spa Face & Body, the laser system is so gentle that numbing creams or local anesthetics aren’t necessary. Most patients report a warming sensation during their session. With zero downtime associated with this procedure, you are free to go resume the rest of your daily activities.

The Recovery Period

The recovery after laser hair removal is very short and simple if you follow our pre-treatment recommendations. Immediately after treatment, you may notice some puffiness and redness in the treated area around the hair follicles. This should not hinder you from resuming your daily activities at all. If you do feel any discomfort, cold compresses are often helpful, or you can request a doctor-recommended moisturizer. You must stay out of sunlight and refrain from activities that could irritate the area where the hair was treated.
